NaNoWriMo Prep 2016

It’s that time of year again. Last year was my first attempt at NaNoWriMo, and in honor of full disclosure, I have to admit that I did not do any prep. I was 1/4 of my way through “Newfangled,” and the detailed outline (a bit too detailed for me) was already complete. For Camp NaNoWriMo, I wrote “Flummoxed,” the second book in the Desires & Decisions series, which means that this November I will be writing the third book, Kerfuffle. The third book in this series is the entire reason I started this series in the first place. After I figured out what made Olive who she is, I wanted to know more about another character, Adam. Though this new book will be told from Olive’s perspective as the other books are, the main focus will be on Olive helping her and her brother’s best friend, Adam, through one of the most difficult things that teens can face today in the church. That’s all I’m going to say, so don’t try to get me to leak any other information.

This is what my NaNoWriMo Prep Check List looks like:

Today, I started to work on the second item, the outline. I have all of the major themes sorted, but I need to put them in order and make sure that there are no plot holes and that there is enough opportunity to explain the characters feelings and responses. That is one of my week points as a writer, which I am learning as my workshop group points out countless moments of “Why does she do that?” or “Why does she feel like that?” in Plunge Into Darkness.

Here is a preview of what I got done today for prep.

Did you get excited for a second? Like I would actually post the outline on my blog.

*insert evil laugh*

If you want to know what happens in Kerfuffle, you’ll have to read it when it comes out in late 2017 (yes I am attempting to push the release date up, since I’m ahead on my writing schedule).

If anyone is interested in being my buddy, my NaNo name is “knspence.”

Happy reading and writing. And happy NaNoWriMo 2016 to all the participants!
